경남도립미술관 3층 4, 5전시실에서 2026년 2월까지 열리는 전시 《테라폴리스를 찾아서》의 공간디자인과 조성을 진행했습니다. 

《테라폴리스를 찾아서》는 기후 위기 시대에 예술과 미술관이 사회적·윤리적 관점에서 어떤 역할을 할 수 있을지를 고민하는 전시입니다. 전시는 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로, 인간 중심적 사고에서 벗어나 다양한 생명체와 물질이 서로 얽혀 살아가는 세계를 감각하고 실천할 방법을 모색합니다. ‘테라폴리스(Terrapolis)’는 과학철학자 도나 해러웨이(Donna Haraway)가 제안한 개념으로, ‘테라(Terra)’는 지구와 대지를, ‘폴리스(Polis)’는 공동체 또는 삶의 방식을 의미합니다. 즉, 테라폴리스는 인간뿐 아니라 동물, 식물, 사물 등 다양한 존재들이 고정된 중심 없이 관계를 맺으며 살아가는 생태적 공동체를 뜻합니다. 해러웨이가 강조한 SF적(Speculative Fabulation) 감각, ‘정답을 찾기보다 질문하고 상상하는 태도’는 이 전시를 이끄는 사고의 틀이 됩니다. 

석운동은 미술관의 문제의식에 깊이 공감하며 4, 5관의 가벽을 최소화하고 모듈화를 시도했습니다.

Seokundong undertook the spatial design and construction for the exhibition In Search of Terrapolis, held in Galleries 4 and 5 on the third floor of the Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art, on view through February 2026.

In Search of Terrapolis examines the role that art and museums can play—socially and ethically—amid the climate crisis. Grounded in this inquiry, the exhibition seeks ways to sense and practice a world in which diverse life-forms and materials coexist in entangled relationships beyond human-centered thinking.

“Terrapolis,” a concept proposed by science philosopher Donna Haraway, combines terra (earth, land) and polis (community, mode of living). Terrapolis therefore refers to an ecological community in which humans, animals, plants, and things form relationships without a fixed center. Haraway’s emphasis on speculative fabulation—approaching the world not by seeking fixed answers but by asking, imagining, and staying with the trouble—serves as the conceptual framework for this exhibition.

In alignment with the museum’s intentions, Seokundong minimized the use of partition walls in Galleries 4 and 5 and explored modular strategies for the spatial layout.
