석운동은 경남도립미술관 3층 로비의 리뉴얼 디자인과 가구 제작 및 설치를 진행했습니다. 이번 프로젝트의 핵심은 기존 자작나무 합판으로 제작된 고정식 책장을 해체하여 폐기하는 대신, 공간의 목적에 따라 유연하게 활용할 수 있는 이동식 가구로 리디자인(Re-design)하는 것이었습니다.

새롭게 재탄생한 책장의 배면에는 다양한 하드웨어를 부착할 수 있는 타공판을 설치해 활용도를 높였습니다. 또한 리폼된 가구의 색감과 조화를 이룰 수 있도록 기존 빈백과 붙박이 벤치의 쿠션 커버링 작업을 병행하여 공간 전체의 시각적 완성도를 높였습니다.

이 작업은 기획전 《테라폴리스를 찾아서》에서 제안했던 '모듈형 재사용 가벽'의 문제의식을 잇는 시도입니다. 가구의 수명을 연장하고 자원 순환의 가치에 공감하며 프로젝트를 지지해 주신 주은희 학예사께 감사의 마음을 전합니다.

Seokundong led the renewal of the 3rd-floor lobby at the Gyeongnam Art Museum, overseeing design, production, and installation. Rather than discarding the existing fixed birch plywood bookshelves, we chose to re-design them into mobile units that can be rearranged to suit the evolving needs of the space.

The reverse side of these reconfigured units now features perforated boards, allowing for the attachment of various hardware and increasing functional versatility. To ensure aesthetic cohesion with the repurposed furniture, we also replaced the covers of the existing beanbags and built-in bench cushions.

This project continues the exploration of sustainability first introduced through our ‘Modular Reusable Walls’ for the exhibition Searching for Terrapolis.
