국립현대미술관 청주에서 2026년 3월까지 열리는 기획전《조우, 모던아트협회 1957-1960》에 석운동은 공간조성으로 참여했습니다.
1950년대 후반, 한국 미술은 전쟁의 상처와 재건의 긴장 속에서 새로운 길을 모색했습니다.1957년 한묵·박고석·유영국·이규상·황염수를 중심으로 한 화가들은 사실주의에서 벗어난'현대회화'의 새로운 가능성을 찾아 모던아트협회를 결성하고 1960년까지 여섯 차례 전시를 열었습니다.이번 전시는 모던아트협회의 형성과 전개, 그리고 해산 이후의 흐름을 보여주는 작품 156점과자료를 통해 1950년대 후반 한국 미술가들의 치열한 고민과 실천을 돌아보고자 합니다.

In the late 1950s, Korean art sought new directions amid the trauma of war and the pressures of reconstruction. In 1957, a group of painters—centered around Han Mook, Park Goseok, Yoo Youngkuk, Lee Gyusang, and Hwang Yeomsoo—formed the Modern Art Association to explore new possibilities for “modern painting” beyond realism, presenting six exhibitions until 1960. Featuring 156 works and archival materials, this exhibition revisits the intense debates and artistic practices of Korean artists in the late 1950s by tracing the formation, development, and dissolution of the Modern Art Association.
